Notes :

The night begins with a new conquest and a new Dungeon Master.  In an effort to give our leader his first chance to rest in five years, and a long overdue chance to play D&D 5e, I have taken the reins for one night…my generous co-players exhibited lots of patience and should be commended for going along with this.
Our campaign and characters were all pre-written and pre-rolled.  This gave me a campaign I could follow, and the players a faster jump-in.  Credit to Kristjan Matthiason for a fun, well written campaign mini-series (of which I used the third adventure).
Our cast of characters tonight are:
    Dimli = a Dwarf Fighter
    Elemath - an Elf Mage
    Haychoo - a Human Monk
    Keeb - a Half-Elf Paladin
    Lamo - a Halfling Rogue

Our story begins with our heroes meeting on the Talbot Road while headed on their way to the small village of Myrefall.  This is a small community  located a short distance inside the northeastern corner of the Wolfpine forest.
There has been hearsay of strange sounds emanating from deep within the forest, and while talking with each other during the walk from Talbot, our group has come to realize they have each come here for the same reason.  They decide to form a small battalion and to explore these rumors together.
Entering Myrefall, they spot a sign for the Bullfrog Inn.  Being both hungry and tired, they decide to make this their stop for the night.  The village mayor greets them while looking them over once or twice to determine whether or not a group of trouble makers has entered his domain.  Seeing nothing to worry about, and hearing that they have actually come to help, he lets them get to their food and drink.
Dawn comes early, and so does breakfast!  Fresh, farm-raised foods taste so much better than the traveling rations our warriors have gotten used to as of late.  While enjoying a second round of coffee, and sitting back in discussion of how to begin their quest, a young man runs into the inn and heads directly to their table.
“We need your help.  Something terrible has happened at the Holborn farm.  The Mayor and Wizard
sent me to get you.  They’re at the farm now.  Please hurry and follow me.”

Grabbing their gear and heading out right behind the lad, they arrive at the farm to find the wizard has already departed, and only the mayor is present.
“…something has happened to the Holborn family. They are nowhere to be found, and their house looks
broken into. Chariz, the wizard, has gone to her tower to see if she can locate the family with her magic,
as it appears they were abducted. If she is successful, we will surely have need for your help."

At the wizard’s tower, old wizard comes out holding a map.  She tells our heroes the divination has exhausted her and she will not be joining them.  Handing over the map and two healing potions, she retreats back into her tower and calls over her shoulder that she will join them the next morning.
As they head deeper and deeper into the woods, the light fades abnormally fast.  With so little light, several of the group walk into giant spider webs, while the rest fend off the spiders that spun them.  Defeating the creatures, and all members now being free from their entanglement, the group moves forward as the darkness increases.
By sunset, it is pitch dark.
Seeing signs of light ahead of them, our comrades venture forward carefully not knowing what or who lies before them.  Approaching a clearing where a village once stood, several sights catch their eyes at once.
Amongst several dilapidated buildings they see a huge bon fire to the center and a giant pentagram to the northwest.  Diverse ranks of Kobolds are at each…varying from comical cooks at the fire to an ominous trio at the ceremonial diagram.  Our group decides to split up and approach both groups of Kobolds simultaneously.
While four of our champions are rushing the Kobolds at the bonfire, the other two begin their assault at the ritual site.  One group faces a huge onslaught of Kobolds, while the second fights two Kobold Dragonshields and a Sorcerer.
Several times our warriors are taken down and revived.  But after a long and bloody battle, the Sorcerer flees and his minions are defeated.
Exploring the surrounding buildings, they locate the Holborn family and begin the journey back to Myrefall.  There may be more Kobolds incoming, and they don’t want to jeopardize the family they just rescued by becoming entrenched in another battle.
At early daylight they hear the tumult of a group approaching them.  They prepare for a fight, but, Alas!  It is Chariz and some of her servants on horseback!
At her command, the servants dismount and let the farmer and his family have their horses.  As the mounted group goes on ahead, Chariz doles out healing potions and hangs back to walk with our victors so they can discuss the events of the night before.
Hearing their account, she is puzzled by the demeanor of the Kobolds encountered.  She tells of how the Kobolds here have always been timid, withdrawn creatures who stay in their lairs and avoid any and all confrontation.  The presence of the Sorcerer and Dragonshields baffles her even more causing her to believe some greater power must be at work here.
Upon reaching Myrehall, the townspeople and the mayor rush to greet the heroes.  The villagers feed them, reward them, and offer them a permanent place to stay within the village.  Heeding the anxiety of the Wizard, our heroes are seriously considering taking them up on their offer.
Who knows?  There may be more adventures ahead…more danger, darker foes, innocents to defend, battles and glory…who knows…..
