Project 1999

What is "Project 1999" I hear you asking...
To understand the glory that is Project 1999, you must first understand the Glory that was EverQuest.
EverQuest is often credited with being the first MMO to bring the genre to the mass market. But that isn't why it was great, It was great because not only did it bring the Multi-User Dungeon (MUD) text based genre to life with graphics and 3D environments, it did it with class. It was by far the best of it's time, and some would argue the best ever.
It required community cooperation, and inter-class dependency. It encouraged team work and strategy. And best of all, IT WAS CHALLENGING! This game, unlike most of today, was actually hard to do well at. Deaths had consequences, and felt like a true loss.
Like most games of this genre, It's popularity was ultimately it's downfall. As more people played the game, the companies involved worked harder to produce more content. Each expansion adding more and more. With the first expansion "The Ruins of Kunark" as well as the second "The Scars of Velious" these additions were well planned and balanced (for the most part). They brought quality as well as quantity to the game. However, after this the expansions started to focus on more quantity and less quality. Products were put out without proper quality control, and in-game "features" made earlier content void, and pointless. I have always thought that the game peaked with "Scars of Velious".
Enter Project 1999: Project 1999 is a free to play Emulated Everquest Server giving Players the opportunity to experience Classic EQ Once again, currently in the Velious expansion and a max level of 60, with the look and feel of the old interface and several modifications making game mechanics similar to how the game used to be. Project 1999 is the best and most popular classic Everquest experience.
While there is no guarantee, it has been stated that the P99 staff and development teams have no intent of going beyond the velious expansion. This means that the game is locked in at its peak, at it's best!!
